Self-Care is quite the buzz word these days. It seems self explanatory, but what does is actually mean? I know, for me I can eat well, meditate daily, take all the yoga classes in the world, receive a massage, and still feel like something is missing. When I sit in contemplative reflection, what comes to me is that when I am still in “doing” mode, rather than receiving mode, I am not actively absorbing the pleasure and the joy that is available to me; therefore I am not fully receiving the benefits of the activity I am engaged in. We, as a society are wired “to do”, and to value ourselves according to how much we get done, consequently making self-care another thing we add to our check list, rather than receive. Quite frankly, most people’s nervous systems are on overload, and this leads to all sorts of imbalances, both mental and physical. We are seeing the evidence of this in people of all ages. We have lost access to our own joy, that which came so easily, as a child. How do we live this “adult” life , with all its demands, responsibilities, and potential stressors, and still experience joy? This, in my experience requires a rewiring and reframing of how we approach life and how we tend to ourselves in the process. In conclusion, it is not what we do, but the intention behind what we do that sets the precedent for what we experience. I for one, am guilty of overlooking the value of this and short changing myself on all the nourishment that is available to me on a daily basis. Some call this mindfulness; being fully present in each moment, which puts us in a receptive state. This is a practice and every moment lends itself to this potential opportunity. I look at the challenges and the corresponding chakras and mental constructs or beliefs that are operating, and together we clear and replace these sabatoging thoughts and beliefs with new powerful affirmations that are embedded in your subconscious mind. The reason this is so effective is because two conflicting thoughts cannot exist in the subconscious mind simultaneously, so the stronger thought remains. Some constructs are stronger than others and may take more than one session to dissolve, since they have sometimes been operating for a lifetime and are often entrenched in your lineage or the collective consciousness.
